RV park EV charging, built for the rigs arriving next season.
Electric tow vehicles and lithium house batteries are already pulling into RV parks. GridLynQ installs bidirectional pedestals so that demand becomes a priced amenity, a lower power bill and a grid-revenue line — instead of a peak your transformer can't take.
Why now
Demand is arriving before the pedestals are.
Tow vehicles arrive already electric
Electric pickups and large SUVs are the tow vehicles showing up at check-in today, and towing roughly halves their range. A park with charging is the difference between a booking and a bypass.
House batteries went lithium
Rigs increasingly carry sizeable lithium banks with real communication capability. Those batteries sit still for days — the ideal profile for bidirectional participation.
Interest is ahead of infrastructure
Search demand for RV and campground charging is growing faster than parks are installing it. Early sites capture the trip-planner listings and the repeat bookings that follow.
The economics
Four lines on the ledger, not one.
Demand charges are the real bill
A single hot evening at full occupancy can set the demand charge for the whole month. Discharging stored energy into the park's own load during that window is the largest and most predictable saving, and it does not depend on any programme being open.
Export revenue when the utility calls
Aggregated across sites in phased, right-sized blocks, parked capacity becomes a dispatchable grid asset the utility can pay for — the hub-and-spoke model that makes a single park count.
Charging as a priced amenity
Submetered pedestals let you bill per kWh or per night, and list the park in EV and RV trip-planning tools. For many operators the occupancy lift matters more than the electricity margin.
Outage resilience for guests
The same hardware islands the office, bathhouse, well pump and camp store, so a grid failure at peak season doesn't turn into refunds and early departures.
Phased rollout
You don't rewire the whole park at once.
- 1
Start with the long-stay loops
Seasonal and monthly sites have the dwell time that makes bidirectional worthwhile. Convert one loop rather than the whole park.
- 2
Add shared stalls at the entrance
A few higher-power shared stalls near the office serve day visitors, staff vehicles and arrivals that need a quick top-up without rewiring every site.
- 3
Site the storage where the service is
Stationary batteries next to the existing service buffer the peaks, which is usually what avoids a transformer upgrade.
- 4
Expand as occupancy proves it
Metering data from year one tells you which loops to convert next and what to charge for it.
Owner FAQs
What park owners ask before they commit.
- Do we need a service upgrade to add EV charging?
- Often not. On-site storage buffers the peaks that would otherwise force a transformer or main-service upgrade, so the park adds charging capacity without adding peak draw. The feasibility review answers this from your actual billing data and site layout.
- What if a guest's EV can't send power back?
- It still charges normally. Export only happens with bidirectional-capable vehicles and the park's own storage — which is why we size site storage to carry the demand-charge and resilience case on its own. Guest export is upside as more bidirectional models arrive.
- Will charging drain the power our rigs need?
- No. The controller prioritises site load and holds reserve before it does anything else. Air conditioning at full occupancy is exactly the peak the batteries are there to cover.
- How do we bill guests for charging?
- Every pedestal is submetered. You choose per-kWh pricing, a nightly add-on, or bundling it into premium site rates, and you get monthly utilisation reporting to tune it.
- What does this cost the park upfront?
- It depends on your state's incentive and programme mix and the size of the deployment. Your tailored plan models equipment, installation and incentives line by line before anything is committed.
- How long does it take from first call to operating?
- The utility interconnection review is normally the long pole, not the construction. We produce a location-specific permitting and interconnection checklist with your plan so the sequencing is visible from the start.
- What about seasonal parks that close in winter?
- Seasonal closure changes the revenue mix, not the case. Stationary storage keeps earning on demand response and export in the off-season while guest charging is idle.
