How V2G makes money for marinas, campgrounds and condominiums

A bidirectional deployment rarely pays back on one line item. It stacks several, and the mix differs by property type and tariff.

1. Demand-charge relief

Commercial tariffs bill both the energy you use and the highest short interval of power you draw in the month. A single hot evening can set the demand charge for the entire billing period. Discharging stored energy into your own load during those windows is usually the largest and most predictable saving, and it does not depend on any programme being open.

2. Energy arbitrage

Under time-of-use or real-time pricing, charging overnight and discharging during expensive hours captures the spread. The value tracks your tariff, so it is worth modelling from twelve months of actual billing data rather than a rule of thumb.

3. Grid programme revenue

Utility and ISO programmes pay for capacity that can be called on. Eligibility, payment structure and metering requirements vary widely by state and territory. Scale is the gate: this is why GridLynQ builds in 5 MW battery-boost increments under a hub-and-spoke model, so a site reads as a grid asset rather than a curiosity.

4. Charging as a billable amenity

Every pedestal is submetered, so charging becomes a per-kWh or per-night line you price yourself. It also shows up in EV and RV trip-planning tools, which drives bookings — for many parks and marinas the occupancy effect is worth as much as the electricity margin.

What changes by property type

  • Marinas and boatyards: long berth dwell time and existing shore-power infrastructure; often the fastest path to meaningful capacity.
  • Boat storage facilities: dense racks, low base load and predictable seasonal patterns make storage siting simple.
  • Campgrounds and RV resorts: sharp summer evening peaks, so demand-charge relief usually leads the case.
  • Waterfront condominiums: resilience for residents is often valued above revenue, with export as an offset to association dues.
